Edward William Godwin. attr. Folding Chair, ca. 1870

Description

Ebonised wood, split cane seat and back

Circa: h. 81 cm, w. 42 cm, d. 68 cm

Attributed to E. W. Godwin. Susan Weber-Soros: „This „steamer chair“
is a folding version of Godwin’s wicker chair design. The turned
supports and the delineation of the splat resemble Godwin’s
lightweight chair model. Godwin also used the same split cane for
his wicker chair design. The idea of a folding chair would have
appealed to Godwin’s functional approach to design“.
